Akokite.com ("Akokite", "we", "us", or "our") is an independent educational technology platform that helps Nigerian students prepare for the University of Lagos (UNILAG) Post-UTME examination. We are committed to protecting the privacy of our users.

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your personal information when you use our website at akokite.com and related services. By using Akokite, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

Akokite.com is not officially affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the University of Lagos.

Account Information: When you create an account, we collect your full name, email address, and authentication credentials through our authentication provider (Clerk). You may also sign in using Google OAuth.

Profile Information: During onboarding, we collect your chosen faculty, department, and subject preferences. This data is used to personalize your study experience.

Payment Information: When you make a payment, your email address and transaction details are processed by Paystack, a licensed payment processor. We do not store your card numbers, CVV, or bank PINs. We only store your payment reference, status, and email for record-keeping.

Usage Data: We collect practice session results (subject, year, score, total questions, answers given), study note progress, and feature usage patterns to improve your experience.

Device Data: We may collect your browser type, operating system, IP address, and general location (country/city level) for analytics and security purposes.

We use your information to:

• Create and manage your account
• Deliver personalized practice questions and study materials
• Track your progress and display performance statistics
• Process and verify payments
• Send important account notifications (payment confirmations, access expiry)
• Improve our platform, fix bugs, and develop new features
• Prevent fraud, abuse, and unauthorized access

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties for marketing purposes.

Your data is stored securely using industry-standard practices:

• Database: User profiles, practice history, and study progress are stored in Supabase (PostgreSQL), hosted on secure cloud infrastructure with encryption at rest.
• Authentication: Account security is managed by Clerk, which provides enterprise-grade encryption, session management, and multi-factor authentication support.
• Payments: All payment processing is handled by Paystack, which is PCI-DSS compliant and licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria.
• Local Caching: Some data (practice progress, question caches) may be stored in your browser's localStorage for offline access and performance. This data stays on your device.

We use the following third-party services, each with their own privacy policies:

• Clerk — Authentication and user management
• Supabase — Database hosting and storage
• Paystack — Payment processing
• Vercel — Website hosting and deployment
• Sentry — Error tracking and monitoring (collects anonymized error data)

Under the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation (NDPR), you have the right to:

• Access your personal data we hold
• Correct inaccurate or incomplete data
• Delete your account and associated data
• Withdraw consent for data processing
• Data portability — request a copy of your data

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will remove your personal data within 30 days, except where we are legally required to retain certain records (e.g., payment records for tax/audit purposes).

Anonymized, aggregated data (e.g., overall question difficulty statistics) may be retained indefinitely as it cannot be linked back to individual users.

Akokite is designed for Post-UTME candidates who are typically 16 years and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we discover that a child under 13 has provided personal data, we will delete it promptly.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the "Last updated" date and, where appropriate, via email notification. Continued use of Akokite after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
